From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
Future Episodes
Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Questers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can look forward to learning which characters will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
